A name for baby at last!

Finally, Baby Clemmer can stop being called "to-be" or "it" or just "baby!" We've finally decided on a first name. (Don't ask about a middle name - we're doing good to have part of the name done already - lucky for us the last name was a no-brainer!)

So, get ready to welcome baby Seth Clemmer! I know, a lot of you are probably wondering why? or something like that. Well, other than the fact that we liked the name, there were a few reasons we decided on this one.

First, it's a biblical name. Seth was Adam and Eve's third son. Genesis 5:3 says, "When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth." This was something that really struck us because if you remember your creation history, Adam was created in God's image. (Genesis 1:26 says, "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..." and again in 1:27, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;...") Which means that Seth, made in Adam's image, was also made in God's image. This isn't said about any of his other sons.

Not that we're trying to be conceited and say that our baby was specifically created by God to be in the image of God, but ultimately, yes, God did create out baby. And ultimately, he did intend for mankind to all be in his image. We just got ourselves a little off track with our sinful nature...

Also, the next thing that really spoke to us about the name Seth is that the name is thought to mean "granted" or "appointed." Genesis 4:25 says "...and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel..." For Adam and Eve, Seth was a gift from God to replace the son they had lost. Without any intention of sounding depressing, we felt this was especially meaningful to us after having lost our first baby early this year.

So, now you know why we've chosen Seth for the name of our son. Hopefully we'll find something perfect to go with it for a middle name. When we do figure it out, we'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, we're enjoying learning to call "baby" by his new name!

Brianne, when I just (12/03)read about Seth's name it really stirred me. Names really mean a lot to us and to our Lord. And what a powerful way for the Lord to speak to you. When we see you we will have to share about Hope's name. Love You.
