It's potty time!

Today marks the "real" beginning to our potty-training journey. Sure, we've done the pull-up thing, with hit and miss success, but today, Seth is in BIG BOY UNDERWEAR!!! We'll see how it goes. This AM when he got up he said he wanted them so I let him wear them, so I figured why not. We'd been wondering how to decide when enough was enough of this back and forth effort. I'm hoping it's not a mistake...

For this morning's beginning we've set the potty timer for 1 hour intervals and so far only 1 accident that was *kind of* my fault - the timer went off but we were in the middle of eating lunch, so I asked if he needed to go and of course he said no. I told him okay, but after he was done we were going to the potty. A few minutes later he'd already done just that in his underwear - thank goodness for plastic chair cushion covers!!!

And of course, where would we be in potty training if there wasn't the ever-familiar "didn't quite get it pointed down into the potty just right and even though it wasn't an "accident" we still got our underwear/shorts/socks wet" issue... SO, two underwear/clothes changes into the day, and it's almost naptime.

I'm expecting LOTS of laundry this week.

Luckily, I don't have any specific errands to run, so we can pretty much stay at home all week, which is a plus! I'm also trying to go into this expecting accidents, with a calm, matter-of-fact attitude that this is just how we do it, diapers are for babies, he's a big boy and can do this. No rewards, no threats, nothing but we pee/poop in the potty and that's all there is to it. (Let's see how long I can keep my cool about this all!!!)

I've also got a special plastic chair set up for him in the living room if he's watching TV or playing a game with a blanket underneath it, and like I said earlier, there's a plastic cover on his dining room chair (which fortunately is over laminate flooring not carpet!) Also, we're spending a lot of time in the kitchen as an attempt to save the living room carpet. I'm thinking that if it's not raining tomorrow and not miserably hot, we'll be spending some time outside too.

Anyway, prayers for success and patience are appreciated! And of course, tips and tricks are welcome too! I'm praying this will be our first and last attempt at potty training with Seth - and hopefully it won't take months to master!!!
